Thousands of car and truck drivers have been stuck in traffic for the ninth day! Express way has been at a standstill because of main road works in the capital Beijing. The traffic first started on August 14, when a major car accident happened. But those affected has been taking the disruption in their stride.

To pass time drivers are playing chess or card games and others say: "concerts should be held at each congested area every weekend, to alleviate drivers' homesickness.'' Venders have been making small fortunes by selling noodles and other stuff to eat. A business man has said: ''If there's no traffic jam in the city, that would be news.''

Around 400 police officers are at the scene 24 hours a day to make sure that the situation stays calm.
